Who is most prone to allergies?
Allergies are most commonly seen in young children, but they can occur at any age. In fact, it’s not uncommon for an individual to never experience an allergic reaction during childhood, only to encounter a significant complication as an adult. Sex, ethnicity, and gender are not considered to be contributing factors. On the other hand, specialists now believe that allergies tend to run in families, so it is likely that a genetic component is at play. As well, influences including where you live (environmental factors), hormonal activity, and how much stress you experience, have all been shown to promote the onset of a new allergy.
What is Anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis (also known as Anaphylactic shock or Anaphylactic reaction) is a severe allergic reaction that affects multiple body system and, if not treated promptly and correctly, can cause death. Anaphylaxis can affect even those without a known allergy. Interestingly, a recent study suggests that up to 15% of the entire population may be at risk for such a serious reaction. The most common causes of Anaphylaxis remain; foods, latex rubber, stinging insects, vaccines, and certain classifications of drugs.
How common are allergies?
Allergic disorders are currently the fifth leading cause of chronic illness in adults, and the third most common chronic condition in persons under the age of 18. They affect 1 in 5 individuals, or more than 20% of the entire population in the United States alone. Despite an estimated 7 billion dollar annual price tag for America’s health care system, allergies remain one of the most prevalent and most overlooked of all disease conditions.
Is nutrition really that important for controlling my allergies?
Absolutely. Again, allergies are an abnormal response of the immune system, whereby the immune system attacks what it construes as an invader (allergen) when the invader isn’t actually a harmful substance at all. Strengthening the immune system has proven over the centuries to be a sure fire way to deal with allergies. Supporting immunological functioning with vitamins, minerals, and herbs is a ‘natural’ option that has been shown to not only reduce the severity of allergies, but to limit the occurrence of adverse symptoms when an allergic reaction does occur. Nutritional adequacy is paramount for maintaining a healthy immune system. Dietary supplements like Historal can restore the balance of a weakened immune system and decrease the likelihood of an allergic reaction by preventing the release of histamines in the blood.
